Ignition switch
The original ignition switch can break everywhere at every time, at a rest, at a petrol station, during riding in the middle of nowhere:
- electric base plate falls off: switch breaks into parts
- If the upper plastic cylinder has some play, the screws connecting metal body and upper tube are broken and the remaining 2 rivets will follow soon: the switch 'explodes'
- typcial longitudinal crack in the plastic tube: water and dust enters
Before risk to 'break down' on the road, you may replace the italian crap by a standard Yamaha ignition switch (2nd hand part ca. 15-20 €) The Yamaha switch can easily be fitted, has full metall housing, is half the weight and length, and looks so much more discrete compared to the 'phallus':
- There are two versions of the Yam switch: one with and one without steering lock. Get the one with the lock (e.g. Yamaha TZR 125 4DL/4FL or Yamaha XJ 900)
- Use only original Yamaha switches (2nd hand !): cheap after-market switches are made from plastic
- Other than the Atlas switch, the Yamaha switch can be opened and cleaned
- The Yamaha switch fits plug&play if both fixation holes are made a little bit wider (hand drilling machine, see pictures on the right)

Front indicator
The original indicators are very exposed to crack (on a crash etc). This can be avoided by replacing them
with 'fairing indicators'
Rear indicators
The original rear indicators are prone to break when crashing or just touching with your body. Special enduro-indicators are a) much shorter, b) made from unbreakable plastics and c) mounted on flexible arms (avoid after-market "enduro"-indicators: plastics break and arm flex is limited).
- Indicators KTM, all EXC-models since 2005 (left one, € NOS 30,-): armflex up to 90 degree, bolt 12mm does fit, original cables can be plugged to the shoes in the housing.
- Indicators Yamaha XT 600 (right one, used part € 20,- ): flexible arm, very well made, huge blinking surface, bolt 14mm corresponds to original, electric connections must be changed.
Rear light
- Identical to the original one: rear light of Ducati 750/900, 1991 to 1997.
Stein-Dinse catalogue No. 067574100 (46 Euros). - Replacement: rear light of Laverda RGS 1000 (also used on some Triumphs and Ducatis) with two bulbs: more light and redundancy.
Battery
Despite the Atlas regulators charging voltage has been designed for lead-acid-batteries, there is generally no problem when using GEL-batteries.Particulary for offroad riding sealed GEL-batteries make sense.
Be aware that all consumer batteries come from the same 'plant': Intact, JMT, ShinYo etc are just trading names and the only difference between them is the label - watch out for the best offer!
